Instructor, Introduction to Law (Ottawa)
Description
Meet Circuit Stream
Where big futures start. Circuit Stream is building the defining youth enrichment brand in North America. We create pre-university summer camps that give young people the chance to explore what they might want to do next, from AI, engineering, medicine, and business to psychology, sports, outdoor adventure, and more. Through partnerships with leading universities and industry experts, we turn those interests into hands-on experiences that build skills, confidence, and open doors to future opportunities. We have big ambitions to serve over 10,000+ students a year. Getting there means moving quickly, trying new things, learning from what works, and giving great people real ownership. If you’re ambitious about where your own career can go, and excited to help young people discover where theirs might lead, you’ll thrive here.
We’re looking for a legal practitioner, legal educator or law student who can bring the legal system to life for teenagers and create a classroom where students are excited to question, analyze, argue, and participate.

Teaching dates and hours: July 19 - 30, 2027 from 8:45am to 4:45pm
Compensation: CAD 1,650 per week
Training: Required instructor training/onboarding when hired; additional 2-3 hours in June before courses begin.

Why You'll Love This Role
You’ll introduce students ages 13–17 to how the legal system works through case analysis, legal research, courtroom procedure, persuasive advocacy, and a culminating mock trial. The curriculum, lesson resources, and activities are provided — your role is to make them engaging, accessible, and memorable while helping every student build confidence and make progress.
What You'll Be Doing
- Deliver Circuit Stream’s provided Introduction to Law curriculum with energy, clarity, and strong classroom facilitation.
- Guide students through case analysis, legal research, evidence evaluation, witness examination, persuasive advocacy, and mock-trial preparation, ensuring learners are meeting the course learning objectives.
- Create an inclusive, positive classroom environment and use appropriate behavior-management techniques to reinforce expectations, respectful discussion, rules, and safety requirements.
- Monitor student understanding, provide helpful feedback and support, and communicate concerns or learner needs to the Circuit Stream team.
- Supervise students during scheduled indoor and outdoor activities outside classroom instruction each day, helping maintain engagement, appropriate behavior, and safety.
What We're Looking For
- You genuinely enjoy working with teenagers and know how to keep a group engaged, participating, and confident enough to speak up.
- Professional, academic, competitive, or substantial project experience in law, legal studies, political science, debate, mock trial, or a related field.
- A completed JD degree in Law, Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Political Science, Criminology or a related discipline.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts, evidence, and persuasive arguments clearly and appropriately for beginners.
- Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, debate or mock-trial coaching, camp, or youth-program experience is strongly preferred.
- You are dependable, prepared, receptive to feedback, and comfortable taking responsibility for student behavior, respectful discussion, and safety.
Who This Is For
- Someone who gets energy from helping teenagers learn, think critically, and build confidence speaking in front of others.
- A discussion-driven teacher who brings provided lessons to life through questions, case studies, role-play, feedback, and active participation.
- Someone who can be warm and approachable while still setting clear boundaries and maintaining a focused, respectful, and safe learning environment.
- A thoughtful facilitator who is comfortable helping beginners analyze both sides of a case, evaluate evidence, and build persuasive arguments.
- Someone who is available to teach on weekdays during the summer for all course dates listed.
Who This Is Not For
- If you are interested in law but do not enjoy spending your day actively working with teenagers.
- If your preferred teaching style is primarily lecture-based or you are uncomfortable asking students to discuss, question, argue, present, and participate regularly.
- If you become frustrated when beginners need extra explanation, encouragement, or multiple opportunities to practice.
- If you are uncomfortable managing disagreement, enforcing classroom expectations, supervising students outside the classroom, or taking responsibility for safety.
What's In It For You
- The opportunity to introduce teenagers to law and help them explore legal, public-policy, and related academic and career paths.
- A complete curriculum, lesson resources, activities, instructor training, and support from Circuit Stream’s Education team.
- A community of instructors and educators to connect with and learn from.
- A rewarding summer role where you can strengthen your teaching, facilitation, and mentorship skills while making a visible impact on students.
