Job Board

Instructor, Game Design with Unreal Engine

Description

Meet Circuit Stream

Where big futures start. Circuit Stream is building the defining youth enrichment brand in North America. We create pre-university summer camps that give young people the chance to explore what they might want to do next, from AI, engineering, medicine and business to psychology, sports, outdoor adventure and more. Through partnerships with leading universities and industry experts, we turn those interests into hands-on experiences that build skills, confidence, and open doors to future opportunities. We have big ambitions to serve over 10,000+ students a year. Getting there means moving quickly, trying new things, learning from what works, and giving great people real ownership. If you’re ambitious about where your own career can go, and excited to help young people discover where theirs might lead, you’ll thrive here.

We’re looking for a game designer, developer, educator, or Masters/PhD student with strong Unreal Engine experience who can make game design approachable for teenagers and create a classroom where students are excited to build, experiment, and bring their ideas to life.

Role Details

Delivery: In person at McGill (School of Continuing Studies)
Teaching dates and hours: August 09 - 20, 2027 from 8:45am to 4:45 pm
Training: Required instructor training/onboarding when hired; additional 2-3 hours in June before courses begin.
Compensation: CAD 1,650 per week
Other: A background check will be required before working with youth learners.

Why You’ll Love This Role

You’ll help students ages 13–17 explore the foundations of game design through hands-on prototyping and project work in Unreal Engine 5. Students will learn how to build gameplay using Blueprints, shape player experiences, and develop their own third-person platformer game. The curriculum, lesson resources, and activities are provided — your role is to make them engaging, accessible, and memorable while helping every student make progress.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver Circuit Stream’s provided Game Design with Unreal Engine curriculum with energy, clarity, and strong classroom facilitation.
  • Guide students through Unreal Engine 5, Blueprints, game design fundamentals, prototyping, and their third-person platformer project while ensuring learners are meeting the course learning objectives.
  • Help students troubleshoot technical issues, think through gameplay and design decisions, and connect course concepts to real-world game design and development practices.
  • Create an inclusive, positive classroom environment and use appropriate behavior-management techniques to reinforce expectations, rules, responsible technology use, and safety requirements.
  • Supervise students during scheduled indoor and outdoor activities outside classroom instruction each day, while monitoring learner progress and communicating concerns or support needs to the Circuit Stream team.

What We’re Looking For

  • You genuinely enjoy working with teenagers and know how to keep a group engaged, participating, and excited to create.
  • Professional, internship, academic, freelance, or substantial project experience in game design or game development using Unreal Engine.
  • A completed degree or diploma in Computer Science, Game Design, Game Development, Interactive Media, or a related Masters/PhD in progress; graduates of comparable game-design programs will also be considered.
  • Strong working knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 and Blueprints; familiarity with Figma and version-control tools such as Git is an asset.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the patience to explain technical and design concepts clearly to beginners.
  • Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, TA, training, camp, or youth-program experience is strongly preferred, along with a portfolio of relevant game-design or development work.

Who This Is For

  • Someone who gets energy from helping teenagers turn ideas into playable experiences and build confidence with creative technology.
  • A practical teacher who brings provided lessons to life through demonstrations, guided building, questions, feedback, and hands-on participation.
  • Someone who can make game-design and Unreal Engine concepts feel approachable without oversimplifying them.
  • A patient problem-solver who is comfortable helping beginners troubleshoot, iterate, and learn from mistakes.
  • Someone who is available to teach on weekdays during the summer for all course dates listed.

Who This Is Not For

  • If you enjoy game design but do not enjoy spending your day actively working with teenagers.
  • If your preferred teaching style is primarily lecture-based or demonstration-only, without giving students frequent opportunities to build and experiment.
  • If you become frustrated when beginners need repeated explanation, technical support, encouragement, or redirection.
  • If you are uncomfortable enforcing classroom expectations, supervising students outside the classroom, or taking responsibility for safety.

What’s In It For You

  • The opportunity to introduce teenagers to game design, Unreal Engine, and creative careers in games and interactive media.
  • A complete curriculum, lesson resources, activities, instructor training, and support from Circuit Stream’s Education team.
  • A community of instructors and educators to connect with and learn from.
  • A rewarding summer role where you can strengthen your teaching and mentorship skills while helping students build a game they are proud to share.
